How To Get Your ROKU To Work At The Hotel WIFI Without Hardware

Ok you’ve got your ROKU unpacked and its connected to the hotel TV but somehow you can’t get your ROKU to connect to your hotel’s WIFI. Its already too late to order a HOOTOO Router that I mentioned in a previous post. Even if you ordered it might not arrive until after your vacation. So what do you do?

There is a solution I discovered. It’s called Connectify and if you have a Windows PC it turns your laptop into a virtual router so that you can connect your ROKU to your laptop and have it work through the hotel network!

You can download Hot Spot Pro for a limited time. I have a coupon offer for 75% off which means you can get it for  $8.75 . You can download Hot Spot Pro from Connectify.

I’m going to update this post in a little bit and walk you through how to use the software. For this price its a no brainer especially if you’re stuck at the hotel without a HOOTOO router in your pocket.

Traveling with your ROKU: Hampton Inn, Laguardia (Video)

In this post I put together a video that shows you have to setup your ROKU in your hotel room in 5 minutes or less. This was the last hotel stop on our family vacation. I put together this video rather quickly since we were about to check out. This setup was really easy once you have used your HooToo Travelmate a few times.

The video input select was located on the remote just like it was at the Residence Inn in Melbourne.  Setting up the wireless was super easy since my ROKU was pre-configured for the HooToo Travelmate already.

Enjoy the video and please comment on your experiences of setting up your ROKU in your hotel.

Traveling with my ROKU (Video)- Hilton Garden Inn, Manhattan

So we are at the fourth hotel in our travels with my ROKU. In this next video, I’ll show you how I got the ROKU working at the Hilton Garden Inn.

}I have noticed in my travels that each hotel property has a different flatscreen TV setup so the key is to make sure you do two things:

  1. Find out where the HDMI inputs are located on the TV. If the TV is mounted on a pedestal they are most likely located on the back. If the TV is wall mounted they are located on the side.
  2. Find out how to switch the input sources to HDMI. In some cases the input source button is located on the TV themselves on the side or front mounted or in some cases located on the remote. Continue reading Traveling with my ROKU (Video)- Hilton Garden Inn, Manhattan

Traveling with my ROKU (Video) – LaGuardia Marriott

I visited New York city with my family and we checked in to the the LaGuardia Marriott. The TV setup was a little different there and I don’t think you will see this setup ever again since my guess it will be phased out.

But since I am trying to help you use your ROKU in any hotel I thought I would come up with a solution which I will show you how to do and I even shot a video on how I did it. Continue reading Traveling with my ROKU (Video) – LaGuardia Marriott

Traveling with my ROKU (Video) – Residence Inn, Melbourne FL

I traveled with the family from Miami, FL to Melbourne, FL about a 3 hour drive away. I checked into the Melbourne Residence Inn. In the hotel room the setup was pretty simple with an LG flatscreen with an RF cable hookup and two HDMI inputs. The TV remote had an input selector that let you select between HDMI, cable, and composite inputs. This was a bit of twist since most TVs actually had the input button on the TV set. Cut Cable: How to Build A Powerful HD Antenna for About 10 Bucks

Have you ever wanted to eliminate your TV cable bill? You can when you build this low cost HDTV antenna. Believe it or not the HD Just-Cut-the-Cordreception over the air is better than cable since broadcasters switched to all digital formats. The cable companies have you believe that you have to spend $50 per month just to pick up the local stations.

I cut the cord two years ago and I haven’t looked back. I live here in the OC so most of the stations in my area are located  40-50 miles away so the antenna has to be pretty sensitive to pick these signals. When I started exploring this, most of the antennas I looked at cost over $90. I bought one of these but sadly I was disappointed with the signal quality with many of the stations dropping out. I’ll show you step by step how  I built one that picks up all the stations and costs less than $10 to build. Continue reading Cut Cable: How to Build A Powerful HD Antenna for About 10 Bucks
